VOLUME 2
These quizzes are fillable form PDFs. Like the written exercises in each chapter, the quiz PDF’s must be downloaded off the website to allow student responses or editing by teachers. Choose the appropriate chapter button from the list below, then click the “Download Quiz” button on the next page and save the quiz to your desktop or download folder. After reopening the file on your computer, you can choose to edit the contents if you wish, then decide how you want to distribute the quiz to your students. For more details about downloading, see the “Help” tab in the main menu.
All quizzes have some questions needing audio. The PDF quiz pages listed below are for instructors, and feature the same embedded audio players found in the Spinning Gold book chapters – a Custom Spotify player to hear the Quiz Playlist Songs and a smaller mp3 player for optional Ear Training questions.
On the day of the quiz, you can play the audio examples for your students live from this website. If you want to use a different method to provide audio, you can download the Ear Training MP3 files prior to the quiz (click the download button next to the titles), and then upload them to another website or application.
However, dealing with the Quiz Playlist song examples will be more difficult. Due to copyright protections, they can only be streamed and not downloaded. If your students will have access to the internet during the quiz, the easiest audio alternative would be to give them a SPOTIFY LINK for the quiz playlist, which you can find at the bottom of every quiz page. Then your students can use the link to listen to the songs directly on Spotify.
If this is not possible, you will need to stream the songs from another device or application. The Custom Spotify player used in the chapter pages will not be available, since it cannot be embedded in another website or application. Instead, you will need to get the standard Spotify embed player from the Spotify website.
To do this, use the SPOTIFY LINK mentioned earlier. It will take you directly to the playlist page on the Spotify site. Click the three dots next to the play button and choose “share” in the dropdown menu. You will find a URL link or an HTML embed code you can use to place the Spotify audio player in your application or website.
IMPORTANT NOTE – If you choose to use the Spotify embed player, it will only play a 30 second preview of each song by default, taken randomly from the middle of the song track. To hear the full tracks from the beginning, your students must first log in with a Spotify Premium account (Premium to avoid Spotify ads). This is very important, because in order to answer the audio questions correctly, your students must hear the songs from the beginning.
Unfortunately, Spotify does not provide full tracks when you use their embed player with iPads or Safari. For this reason, your students will need to use a LAPTOP or DESKTOP with either a FIREFOX, CHROME, or EDGE browser to hear the full songs on another website or application.
Most quizzes have optional ear training questions that can be graded separately from the main quiz. If you choose to include the ear training, just decide what percent of the overall quiz grade the additional ear training questions should be (weight as a group).
These quiz pages should be vertically stable, just like the book chapter pages. This will make it easier for you to navigate within the scrollable audio players and PDF viewer. If your quiz page is not stable, try a small change in your browser’s zoom level. For further assistance and some recommended zoom levels for different devices and browsers, see the “Help” tab in the main menu.
Separate answer keys are available for each quiz. These are in the same fillable form PDF format as the quizzes. Use the separate button list on the right to directly download and save the answer keys to your computer.
