Quizzes for each chapter are available to verified Instructors in either LMS format (Canvas or Moodle), or PDF format (downloaded fillable forms). They are completely editable, so teachers have the freedom to add, subtract, or change any question in either format. Included below are Canvas and PDF samples of the Chapter 14 Quiz.
All quizzes have some questions needing audio. For the LMS versions, an audio player is already embedded into the question. The PDF quizzes can be administered with an accompanying Spotify player like the one below, and a separate mp3 player for the ear training questions.
Most quizzes have optional ear training questions that can be graded independently from the main quiz. For Canvas, the ear training segment is actually presented as a separate “mini” quiz, in order to accommodate the automatic SpeedGrader system. (See the two Canvas download buttons below – one for the Main Quiz and one for the E.T. Quiz.)
Answer keys are available to teachers for all PDF quizzes. Separate answer keys are not needed for the LMS versions, since they are prepared for automatic grading systems and the answers are already part of the digital package.
Ch. 14 Sample Quiz (Canvas LMS version)
Canvas files are imported / exported as compressed ZIP files. To start, click either the “Main” or “E.T.” Quiz buttons below and follow the procedure you normally use to download and save files to your device. However, DO NOT OPEN THE FILES AT THIS POINT – they should remain zipped until they are imported into Canvas.
NOTE to SAFARI USERS – Safari automatically unzips downloaded files on laptops and desktops (iPads are OK – the files remain zipped). To prevent this, go to the top menu, click on the word “Safari” / “Preferences” / “General” tab / and uncheck the box “Open Safe Files After Downloading” at the bottom of that window. (Nothing needs to change for Firefox, Chrome, or Edge users – these browsers allow files to remain zipped by default.)
To import the quiz ZIP files into Canvas, follow these steps –
1. Log in to your Canvas account, go to main menu / Settings / Import Course Content
2. Under content type, select “QTI .zip file” from the dropdown menu
3. Click “Browse,” go to your computer and select the quiz you just downloaded.
4. Click “Import.” After a few seconds, the quiz should appear in your Canvas quiz folder.

As mentioned, these quizzes are fillable form PDFs. Like the written exercises in each chapter, the quiz PDF’s must be downloaded off the website to allow student responses or editing by teachers. Click the “Download Quiz” button below, save the PDF file to your download folder or desktop, and reopen the quiz to fill in the answers. If you are a teacher, you can choose to edit the contents if you wish, then decide how to distribute the quiz to your students.
